Grantham

The origin of the surname Grantham is uncertain, although it is said to probably be Old English, meaning “grand.”  The surname had its beginning with the ancient Anglo-Saxon tribes of Britain. “Granta+ham” meaning “Granta’s Village” appeared as early as 1086 in the Domesday Book in its present form. 

Grantham, is a town located in the County of Lincolnshire.  The first documented Grantham families can be found there where they were said to have held a family seat from very ancient times – some researchers say well before the Norman Conquest.
